Good day everyone, well it is the five year anniversary of the day that changed so much in the World and with it being the only subject that seems to be in the news I thought I would reflect on that day and answer the “where were you when” question.
I remember it being like any other day, I was living in Toronto in my apartment on Clendenan. My roomate had left for work and the usual routine was I would get up after she left, make a tea, start surfing the net and flip on Regis and Kelly or whoever the host was five years ago. As I am checking my email I flip on to see Regis even though I had slept in a little and had already missed my favourite part, the first 15 minutes or so.
The TV was warming up and I was in the middle of an email when my ears told me that something was up, where was the voice of Reg?? It was a news special or something. I went back to the email and starting replying to whoever it was at the time when I was jolted back to the news and quicky was wide awake. A plane has hit the Trade Center?? Seriously?
So I move over to the couch and watch in shock as a second plane hits the other tower and all hell breaks lose. This was some pretty heavy stuff and my only reaction was to pick up the phone and talk to anyone. I called home of course. My Mum answered and she was going about her morning routines and of course she never puts the TV on til the news at noon. I just told her put the TV on now. She is like what channel and I said something along the lines of it really does not matter. In seconds she knew what was going on. She asked me a lot of questions that were Toronto based, what was going on in the city, what was closed etc and we talked for a bit and then we hung up and just sat and watched the TV for hours. I made some food and watched, had a shower, got some food and watched, moved to the other room and watched………for the next five or six hours I watched as the Pentagon was hit and everything seemed to be getting out of control as the day went on. What was going to happen next?? Did I have to go to work later in the day, were we supposed to leave the house?? So many questions and of course the fear of what the hell was going on.
I called my friend Eddie and we talked for a long time as he was scared since he had a friend working in NYC, so we talked about anything and everything just to keep his mind off the obvious. I was emailing updates to Lindsay at work since they did not have a TV in their office. It was crazy.
That is my memory of that morning…….not very exciting or eventful in the grand scheme of things but I remember it like it was yesterday. I am sure it is a day everyone will remember so clear and want to forget it all the more. Do you have a memory of that day?
