Halifax cheers Crosby in loss to Sens

For years, Sidney Crosby and Stephen Dixon battled each other as the two best minor hockey players in these parts. On Tuesday night, they teamed up for a losing yet memorable return to their hometown.

Taxpayers helping host the Stones

Governments regularly use public money to help finance major entertainment and tourism events in Nova Scotia, such as the Juno Awards show, tall ship spectacles, summer festivals and sports championships, and Saturday’s concert by The Rolling Stones is no exception. Tax dollars are being spent on crucial things like marketing, street closures, community safety, public transit and cleanup.

COUNTDOWN TO CONCERT

• Tomorrow and Friday: Sound system and lights installed.

Friday: Early evening sound check.

Late tomorrow to early Saturday: Stones arrive aboard private jet.

Saturday: Gates open 1 p.m. Concert begins at 4:30 p.m. Stones on at 8 p.m. Show over by 11 p.m.

Sunday: Stones leave.

Monday: Removal of stage and fencing complete.

Stones good for Halifax: promoters 

Promoters of the upcoming Rolling Stones concert say any tax dollars spent on the show is money well spent.The British rockers take over the Halifax Common on Saturday, their first show in Nova Scotia.
