So the Globa and Mail in Canada rolled out a revamped sports web site this week and today is the first day I have gotten to check it out. I have to admit already knowing how boring the print version of the sports section is I was interested to see how the online version would be. G&M sports usually seems like an after thought that they do because they have to put it in the paper because everyone else does it. It is rarely that deep or looks into anything other than hockey or the Blue Jays.

I checked it out today and it is your pretty typical sports site. I mean if you did not let me see the address or title of the page there is nothing that really makes it scream G&M. Nice little thumb nail pics everywhere and your basic teasers and headlines. And of course it is hockey heavy now that the season has started.

The thing I do like is the blog section. I am a blog nut when it comes to writing and reading so of course I wanted to check this out. What the Globe lacks in style they make up for in the content because they do have a bunch of writers and journalists that I enjoy very much. Now that they are entering articles in the blog section it feels a lot more personal. They talk about the little things that they see or what the fans may be talking about the next day at work.

Here is a good example from today.

Houston: Domi’ debut brings mixed results

Then people and other writers can add their own comment and two cents underneath. I think that is a cool way to interact with the readers.

For the amount of PR and full page ads this launch was getting, I have to admit I was expecting a little more flash and design but in the end it comes down to content and the Globe certainly has that. Give the page a look and see for yourself. I did read it is not being friendly with Firefox users but I have not had any crashes yet. God speed on that one.
