Want to bet tomorrow will be sunny? Maybe you can
Posted by Cuzzy as UncategorizedWeather futures come to Canada
People will soon be able to do a lot more than talk about Canada’s weather.
They’ll be able to make money by predicting the severity of future temperature swings in six Canadian cities.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) announced plans Tuesday to expand its offering of weather futures and options contracts to cover Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver.
Just in case you wanted to bet now, you can bet on weather from around the World already at places like this.
I can just picture it now, a group of guys with a beer or two sitting around the TV watching the football game. Then they quickly change the channel and start yelling at the screen as the weather channel starts doing the national forecast!
Come on snowy in Edmonton!! Or people calling friends or family on the other side of the country, not to say hi but to see if it looks like rain in Vancouver.
Finally people in Halifax have a bit of a sure bet, despite what the Energy minister says I would say it is a good bet to lay your cash on wind.
