The other day we went to the movies and I have to say I was less than impressed. The movie was fine, the crowd was fine, everything was fine except for one thing I have never worried about in the whole movie going experience. The popcorn was crap.

I do not know when it happened or if it is at all chains but Katie and I both agree that the popcorn at the Empire Theatre chains is now horrible and tasteless.

First of all it was right out of the popper so you would assume fresh and hot. Wrong it was warm at best. Next it should be buttery and salty flavoured before you add your own extras to it. Wrong, it was plain.

Okay so we touch it up at the counter with all the extra flavours, wrong. They have removed all the flavours and now charge 79 cents for a little pouch that you can add. Oh wait, there are now hot butter dispensers at the counter now so you can put as much butter on as you want! Sadly the butter is not hot nor does it taste like butter. It might as well be warm, yello water. Also the only salt they offer is tiny little packets that you need to use about 15 to get the salt flavouring you desire.

I had to get up before the movie even started to re-butter our popcorn just to make it edible. I could not help thinking what my friend Al would think. He was well known for loving the extra flavours and would even ask for an extra cup so he could fill it with the flavouring so he could retouch he popcorn mid-movie.

Normally I come away from the movies with a thumbs up or down for the movie. Maybe even some jerk did not turn off his phone but never have I left with such a letdown about the popcorn. It almost ruined the whole experience for me and it will make me think twice about ever getting it again.

Anyone else notice this anywhere else or at other theatre chains?

Just Cuz that’s the way it is.
