An inconvenient blog
Posted by Cuzzy as Politics, movies, opinions
I know all my blog entries are usually fun and full of entertainment but just wanted to make a post on a more serious note. We watched An Inconvenient Truth last night and it was a really good and eye opening movie. The idea of the movie was not new, we all know about global warming but Al Gore really made some points and showed some examples that made it very clear that we are messing up the planet.
Things are happening at an alarming rate and if more is not done to slow down global warming, the next generation will not have much to look forward too. The crazy weather we have is almost certainly a cause of this and governments and the people of every country need to do their part no matter how big or small.
Watching the movie you almost feel helpless and in a no win situation because you think it is up to the the higher powers to fix this and in a way that is true. But all of us can do something even if it is as simple as turning lights off and recycling. Al Gore is in a position to make his findings public and people will listen to him. It is just a matter of the right people listening to him and listening to scientists and taking the steps to believe this problem is very real.
For me when the examples were shown of what would happen if certain ice sheets melted really made me think. Florida mostly vanishing, Manhattan Island losing a lot of its size and even Amsterdam just going under water forever. It is really hard to think about that happening in my lifetime. Funny thing was after we were finished watching there was a small clip on the news about tourists getting all excited in New Zealand because they captured pictures of a giant ice sheet collapsing into the ocean. It was like a celebration of something cool happening. Those pictures won’t be a big deal when there is nobody left to look at them. Is that a little dire and over dramatic? I don’t think so anymore.
I highly suggest you see this movie and check out the website for more information. It is the countries like Canada and the United States that have to lead the way and make it all better. As Gore said, should we not be protecting ourselves against threats other than terrorism?
Sorry for the inconvenient blog entry today, I am sure it was not what was expected on a relaxing Sunday morning where ever you are reading this. I just wanted you to know that where ever you are reading this from is changing faster than anyone can really see it. Take some time to do your part no matter how small and that can hopefully grow into a change for the better.
