Well that feels better, much, much better. I finally have that nasty aftertaste of the last James Bond flick out of my mouth. I never knew it would feel so refreshing to tell you the truth.
This afternoon I did what any guy on his fifth day off in a row would do when there is a lot of time to spend. I went to the movies with one mission, to see Casino Royale if it was the last thing I did. When I arrived I had doubts that I would be able to follow through with it, the times were not matching on the little kiosk in the lobby. Ahhh there were two buttons for this movie, must mean it is good.
The other reason my mission may of ended quickly was what I encountered as soon as I walked in the door. Kids, kids and more kids. I think everyone aged 5-10 in Halifax was in the building today. Oh my God it was overwhelming and only Harry Potter himself could of distracted those kids long enough for me to get to my seat without considering going home.
But I trudged on, got my tickets and made my way to the high school kid who would allow me to pass to movie land. Already here there was a huge line. I learned that there was some kind of PA or PD day today and kids were off school. Nobody imformed the movie theatre so they were under staffed and the lines were huge for food. I passed and after a five minute wait just at the ticket tearing guy I just put my head down and went for theatre 13 hoping it would be free of short, loud people.
Once in my seat I was happy, the place was empty and quiet. It was a bummer the lights were not up, otherwise I would of read my little movie mag while I waitied. At least they have those trivia questions, so hard haha. The previews started and it was time to enter a zone of me and the film. Oh wait, Dad and two loud kids sit behind me, great. My opinion may change one day when I have my own annoying kids but why on earth do you take them places they have to be quiet or sit still?? Needless to say this group got the evil eye early on and it worked thank god.
Ok, ok now for the film itself. Overall I was pleased with it. It was a more action based Bond with less cheese and snappy one liners. The characters were smart and well spoken and Daniel Craig makes the Bond thing work for sure. I wonder if the theme of poker was on purpose with how crazy it is today on TV etc. I am sure it had something to do with it.
The product shots were bordering on ridiculous and I swear I saw Richard Branson getting checked going through customs. Anyone else see that? Then the Virgin sign on the plane just after that? I think Sony spent a fortune on getting their stuff in the film. Everything that plugged in was from Sony. On an unrelated note after that movie I went to the Sony store and maxed out my credit card.
The ladies were hot and the action was intense so all in all it was a good Bond film. Was it great? I can’t really say that but to be honest I hold the old films in such high regard that Sean Connery could go back in time and not make a great film present day. Was it campy enough? Well they did weed a lot of that out but a few times I did think to myself, there would be a good reason to make another Austin Powers, even though I hope they do not.
Cuzzy says to go see this film if you are a Bond fan, Danny Craig fan or even a fan of shiny Sony toys.
Here is the trailer if you still need your arm twisted.
