In honour of tonight’s matchup between my team (Raptors) and Kevin’s new town (Boston) I thought I would reflect on the memories of what the PHD of fries thinks of the game of hoops.

Growing up I was very into sports, watching Sportsdesk and as Kevin would say, skipping cartoons as a child to watch the highlights. When we lived together in London for a few years my enjoyment of the NBA was limited to times when Kev was not home. Otherwise a game would quickly be changed if Kev entered the room. Now and then he would try and humour me and watch it but that quickly turned to sarcastic remarks that would strip any fun or pleasure I got out of watching the game.

Classic comments like “go basketball, is that Sheeeawn Kemp and go Payton were common remarks that Kev used to attack my game and myself.

Many years later Kevin has not found a love for NBA basketball and still to this day likes to make remarks to put down the sport. I am trying to convince him that going to a live game may change his mind and now he can get tickets to see the Celtics I hope he does one day. I have already started to look when the Raps are in town and that is certainly worth a road trip.

My prediction is once Kev goes to a game and feels the rush of live basketball he will be hooked. Through the magic of Photoshop I have put together a picture of the future. Kevin with season tickets to the Celtics, screaming and yelling with the rest of the Boston faithful. It ain’t pretty folks.

So tonight when the Raptors beat up on Beantown, I hope a small part of Kevin feels like his team let him down and that this matchup can build into a rivalry between friends. If not, no big deal I am sure Kevin can come up with some new ways of making fun of the game I enjoy so much.
