Edwin checks in on one of his beloved Detroit sports teams. Maybe not anymore?
It’s official.
The Detroit Lions are slightly ahead of any expansion team starting play in 2007. I say that they are ahead because they do not have to spend marketing time on choosing team colours. Although they could change their logo to 31 other NFL owners laughing at them. They are worse than a team that was devastated by a hurricane less than a calendar year ago.
This leads me to wonder what it would take for the Lions to be good. Not a Super Bowl champ. Not even a contender, but just good.
Crime wave? The Bengals and their 8 arrests are current wild card holders.
War? Well, the Cardinals lost a good defender (Pat Tillman) and they are better (and better off) than the Lions.
Natural disaster? New Orleans looks to be doing fine.
It is now time to think about extreme measures.
Frequent outbreaks of Rubella may not do it. Rather, the entire NFC North would often have to contract any of A. Ecoli6 B. Blindness C. Ingestion of Uranium on game days to level the playing field.
It is simply not possible for them to hold their heads high. I bet that when their linemen line up against other teams’ linemen, the opposition scolds them if the Lions dare make eye contact.
Whoever is playing the Lions this week should trade for Allen Iverson and start him at QB for one quarter ‘just to see.’
Wanna know the shortest book you can ever read? “Memorable Lions’ first downs” by Drew Sharp.
Does anyone blame Barry Sanders these days?
I bet that, given the chance to play for the Lions, the winner of ‘Pros vs Joes’ thinks long and hard about leaving Vermont Energy Inc.
If the rest of the NFL is the Baldwin family, the Lions are old aunt Gladys Baldwin. You know, she’s the one who shows up at Alec’s premiers in a wheel chair because of her bunions.
I am currently a free agent NFL team fan…I would like to remain in the NFC (increased chance of beating Detroit & better history)…I think New Orleans is looking good.
