Christmas cheer?
Yes folks, it’s another NBA Christmas. It’s another boring Heat-Lakers matchup with David Stern trying to publicize the long-gone feud between Kobe Bryant and Shaq.
Does anybody care anymore?
How about Cavs vs. Jazz? Wait, what about Suns vs. Mavs? Come on, Lakers vs. Magic?
No, none of these are a possibility because Stern and the ‘Old Boys Club’ in New York have decided to give us another damn Lakers-Heat game.
Don’t get me wrong; the Lakers are a half-game back of the Pacific Division-leading Suns with a 15-7 record, but the 9-12 Heat are far from entertaining to watch, especially if fatty-cake Shaw is in the lineup.
I have watched Christmas day games every year dating back to 1991 when the Bulls crushed the Celtics something like 121-99 and the Lakers shaved a close win against the Clippers. This year however, this NBA super fan will be tuning into some stupid Christmas movies I have seen 4000 times. Or, maybe I can enjoy a nice Christmas game on my PS2. I think I’ll play the Warriors and I’ll be the Suns (I like seeing if I can record 40 assists with Nash. Got 33 last week).
Wait, who am I kidding, I will probably watch the damn game since I have to sit at the In-Laws’ house and all the men in her family like to pick my brain because I write an occasional story for a popular sports-gambling site (and Cuzoogle, of course). So I’m sure we’ll cuddle up around the fire as these die hard MLB fans take turns hitting the laptops to lay $50 down at a sportsbook on whoever I say will win (I kind of like this sense of power).
I’d have to say take the Lakers on this one, but remember, they haven’t won a Christmas day game in their last four tries, so who knows.
Here are some cool X-Mas day stats.
- The Detroit Pistons have the worst Christmas Day record, at 9-22.
- Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers have made 32 Christmas Day appearances, while the New York Knicks have made a record amount of 44 appearances.
- The Knicks have the most amount of Christmas Day wins, and the most amount of Christmas Day losses.
- Tracy McGrady holds the record for the highest points per game average on Christmas Day, at 43.3.
- Former New York Knick Bernard King holds the record for amount of points in a single Christmas Day game, at 60.
- Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls played on Christmas Day in 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997.
- The Los Angeles Lakers have played on Christmas Day every year since 1999.
