One of the ways I find new songs and artists is from the shows I watch. It makes it easy when most shows have websites that will list all the music in a certain episode. I might as well let others do the work for me eh?

From MSN

Ever watched an episode of your fave show, and a song gets played? A song you want to hear again but have no idea what it was or where to get it? Us too. We scoured the top shows of the past year, and compiled a list of the top songs played on TV episodes in 2006 - doubtless one that’s been rattling around in your brain for weeks. Check it out … and you’re welcome.

1. Grey’s Anatomy, “Losing My Religion” episode
Snow Patrol – “Chasing Cars”
LISTEN
Snow Patrol captured the melancholy mood of the Grey’s finale, and despite being forever associated with Meredith Grey, they’ve picked up a lot of new fans this year.

2. The O.C., “The Avengers” episode
Placebo – “Running Up That Hill”
LISTEN
This shiver-inducing cover of the Kate Bush classic added drama and tension to the opening minutes of The O.C.’s third season. The only drama and tension.

3. CSI – “Built to Kill pt. 1” episode
John Mayer – “Slow Dacing in a Burning Room”
LISTEN
Two behemoths teamed up when Mayer debuted his single on the biggest drama on TV. It may not have been a perfect musical match, but Mayer can think about how How I Met Your Mother might have been a better vehicle while he waits online at the bank.

4. Grey’s Anatomy – “Sometimes a Fantasy” episode
Outkast – “Idlewild Blue”
LISTEN
Nothing like Outkast to spice up an episode of Grey’s which has two three-ways – Meredith’s dream of herself, McDreamy and Finn, the other with Izzie, Christina and Meredith in the shower following Dylan Young’s (Kyle Chandler) explosive exit.

5. CSI: Miami – “Death Pool 100” episode
Death Cab for Cutie – “Transatlanticism”
LISTEN
Death Cab has a long been a favourite of TV writers. They’re Seth Cohen’s favourite band, and Claire sang along to this song on Six Feet Under, but the chilly vibes on this song are a perfect counterpoint to sunny Miami and David Caruso’s red, red hair.

(feel free to go and check out the rest of the list, please come back)
