Calling all big men

In the spirit of the New Year, I felt I should write a list of what each NBA should use for their resolutions. But, that was too easy so I thought I would use just one team that needs a resolution.

The Lakers really really need a big man. Not forever, not anybody good, just a big man. Maybe they could sign Charles Oakley to a couple 10-day contracts. Antoine Carr maybe?

To start December off, the Lakers were the talk of the league. They were 15-6, Kobe was showing and proving, and Phil Jackson was looking like a genius again.

Oh how the tide has turned.

Already without big man Chris Mihm, Los Angeles not only lost the dumb-as-a-post Kwame Brown, they also lost emotional leader Lamar Odom for 8 weeks with a knee injury.

That leaves Andrew Bynum, yes, Andrew Bynum to man the paint for the Lakers. Yes the same Bynum who is just a year out of high school and looks like Steve Erkle if he were a seven-footer.

The Lakers play 14 of their next 21 games on the road, and Phil Jackson said it best today in the Los Angeles Times.

Speaking on whether Bynum will start in place of Kwame, Jackson said, “He started earlier in the year and did pretty well. I just don’t want him to get three fouls in six minutes in the first half.”

Well said Phil, and good luck with that. After Bynum gets three fouls in three minutes, you could always put in Ronny Turiaf. What about Brian Cook? For God sakes could Kobe stop trying to beat out Steve Nash for MVP and start jacking up 40 shots a game again. Not forever, just for a few more weeks.\

I don’t know, but I bet Jackson’s resolution needs to be to go out and sign a big man.

Check out these guys, maybe they should suit up for the Raptors. Sadly David Stern would say no to their skateboard ways.
