J-Rock is back minus the Christmas cheer but still packing the heated opinions
I said to a friend yesterday while watching the game: “I think the Raps are a better team without Bosh then they are without Ford.” I’m not sure how much I even believe that, but with Darrick “Cee-lo” Martin eating shot clock like it was deep-fried cheesecake down the stretch in the fourth last night, it didn’t seem so crazy.
While Mitchell clearly lacks confidence in Calderon’s decision-making abilities when closing out games, it was Martin who looked shaky in both games without Ford. He did go 4 of 6 from behind the arc in a close loss to the Suns, but his shot selection is just unbearable. He should only select to shoot when he has more daylight than an arctic summer, but he is GUNNING. He’d better hit another streak extending 3 at the buzzer soon because I’m about ready to turn on him (oh he’s scared).
On the other hand, Anthony Parker was doing his best to win that game offensively and defensively, and might have done it without some mental lapses from Bosh and Bargnani (both of whom played well for most of the game, particularly Bosh in the 4th). He is by far the Dino’s most consistent wing player, with Jones, Peterson and Graham far behind him.
Other things happening around the league:
Does Corey Maggette have bubonic plague?
I can’t think of any other reason why no team is managing to acquire this guy. He has been on the trading block for what seems like his entire career. He can’t crack the starting five without an injury to Cuttino “where are my pills?” Mobley?
Okay, Mobley’s only 31, but he plays like he’s three times that old. He can sometimes get hot over stretches, but gives you absolutely nothing on D or on the boards. Maggette is at least an average defender, and a great rebounder for his size. His 3 point shooting is abysmal, it’s true, but he remains one of the most dangerous slashers in the league, and makes his living at the free throw line.
He is 15th in the league in freebies made per game, while only playing 26 minutes a night! I’m not saying that the Kings should have necessarily pulled the trigger on a deal for Artest, but I do believe that C-mag is worth the $8 million a year for the next three as he is a legitimate 20 point scorer when given the PT.
Is surgery the new “hip” thing for legendary NBA coaches?
Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, now Pat Riley. Everybody has to be scratching their head about the timing of this one. I admit that it is callous to question someone’s health, but
Is Bosh’s head taking a bunch of little poops?
Seriously though Katie, I kind of like the new dome freshness. It could get a little scary depending on how long he lets them grow. Josh Howard used to have the same kind of look, maybe you could call it “rasta-jock”. Nah, that doesn’t work. If he let them out though, he’d probably have a nice little ‘fro, probably about the size of Danger Mouse’s. You know what that would mean: him and Darrick could go on the road impersonating Gnarls Barkley. That works.
