So we finally got a decent amount of snow yesterday and of course people put on their stupid hats. I still marvel at how snow can have such an influence on a city in Canada! Every year we drive in it and live it in so why do we keep forgetting the do’s and don’t’s???
From the Herald
A quick and dirty snowfall caught drivers off-guard Sunday, causing many minor accidents around metro Halifax.
“We’re so not used to driving in wintertime so it’s like re-educating the drivers whenever there is a snowfall,” said Jean-Marc Couturier, Environment Canada forecaster, on Sunday.
“You just have to slow down and keep your distance.”
While only four centimetres of snow fell in Halifax on Sunday, it was more than enough to keep police busy responding to sliding cars and fender benders.
Halifax Regional Police responded to “way more” than the usual number of car accidents, Staff Sgt. Don Fox said Sunday night.
“The accidents were all over the place, everywhere in the city,” he said.
“It seems like every time we have a quick freeze like that, we run into the same problems.”
Winter forecast to make guest appearance in Maritime provinces
The Maritime provinces are about to rediscover winter.
After a relatively balmy, snowless season, winter storm watches and snowfall warnings are in place for most of the region. The forecast calls for up to 15 centimetres of snow between this afternoon and Tuesday morning in most of Nova Scotia, with possibly greater amounts in northwestern areas. Environment Canada says the snow could be mixed with ice pellets and possibly freezing rain in coastal areas.
A heavy snowfall warning is in place for Prince Edward Island and southeastern New Brunswick, with more than 15 centimetres expected.
Motorists are warned to expect dangerous driving conditions.
