Fine get rid of the old pots and pans, I don’t have to agreeGood morning, it is one of those quiet, lazy Sundays so far and I always find that a great time to blog. Katie and the pets are still sleeping and I have my tea so I am going to try and take inventory on the happenings of Saturday. Nothing really exciting happened Friday other than a Raptors win and watching a few episodes of 30 Rock.Yesterday Katie and I had previously agreed to start the day a little earlier than normal and get the tasks of the day out of the way to leave a relaxing afternoon together. I was up and walked the dog and we were out the door just before 11am. The first thing on the list was brunch to get ourselves full of energy to complete the day. We ended up at The Armview since it is becoming our brunch place of choice more times than not. We both had the 2 eggs breakfast and it hit the spot perfectly. It is a cool little place with good tunes and chatty atmosphere. It helps that there are very few nice brunch spots close to us so it just makes sense to keep going there. After we were out of there we were off to the Halifax Shopping Center to do some buying. We both had some gift cards still to use from Christmas and for the second weekend in a row, we were consumers! This was a most exciting trip though because we were making a purchase for the house. First we went to Roots so I could pick up a few more shirts and finally use up the money I won at my work Christmas party. Then we looked around some more and Katie ended up finding a sweet deal on some new shoes. There were a lot of good prices on the men’s side of the store as well but as always, no sizes for me.Finally the last stop at the mall was the biggest. We hit Sears to but new pots and pans. Something we have needed since we moved in together. I have been using the same pots since I lived with Kevin in London almost 10 years ago. Wow, 10 years ago? Man I feel old. So we checked out all the sets and prices and finally decided on one. The included steamer kind of made the decision for us and we are very happy with the purchase. Of course we had to rush home and play with our new toys and take them all out of the box. I think today we may actually cook something up using as many of the new pots as we can!
After a little relaxing and checking email etc we got a call from Geoffrey about the plans for the night. We were heading out on town with G and Leah. The plans were made to meet for dinner at Il Mercato on Spring Garden for 7pm. Nothing like some good pasta on a Saturday night. So that left us with an afternoon of freedom and we decided to watch The Departed. I have heard so much good things about this film and with all the Oscar buzz around it I was excited to see. Well it is all accurate because this flick is great. Very good performances, good music, writing, storyline, everything. Last night we were saying how fast paced the movie is. There is no extra fat on this piece of meat. There is no long and drawn outscenes and nothing that you wonder why was that in the movie. They just give you what you need to know to make the story make sense. Matt, Leo, Jack, Alec and Marky Mark all had strong characters and performances. I highly suggest checking out this movie even if you don’t have the stomach for a little violence. After it was over we had enough time to get all dolled up and jump in a cab to head to dinner. There was a quick cash stop for me before the resto and it could of turned out to be a bad one. Did the usual thing to get money out and you know the sound it makes to get your money. Well it did that for a goood two minutes and was making all these wonky noises. I just wanted my card back and finally it spat out the cash and my card. Yah that could of been a fun Saturday night. We walked into the resto and there was a lineup. Luckily G and L were already there with a nice table way in the back and away from the draft windows and front door. We walked by all the people waiting like we were high rollers who were too cool for school I think Katie may of even laughed at them all, okay I made that up but it would of been funny. We sat down and the chatter started. Talking about our jobs, what we had done that day, whatever came across our minds. Geoffrey chose a bottle or red and the waitress spilled a bit on the table, claiming it was the first time she had ever done that. It was really no big deal to us but Shawna the waitress kind of obsessed about it the rest of the night like we were going to have her sent to the minor leagues of waitresses or something. I only wish we had room left to eat dessert because she practically begged us to have it for free. Very good diinner and we all left feeling a little more full than what was comfortable.Next up we walked over to The Fireside to have some Martini’s. There was a bit of a wait here as well but not a big deal and we had a table in about five minutes. It is always fun to read the Martini menu and pick out the one you want. I went with The Don. It was Vodka, Ameretto and something that I can’t rememeber. Very tasty and very classy. The Don, yep that was me. Our waitor did not have the flair that we have come to expect when drinking there as he was very open to working with a hangover. The poor guy would bring over four shakers and not have any clue which was which without smelling them all first. Now that bumped up the class for sure. We chatted more and I have three Don’s. We learned all about the inner workings of the Trail Shop (where G and L) work and had a very good time. The only downside was the fact that we did not actually get to sit next to a fire.We went to get a cab to head over to G & L’s for a bit before calling it a night. I had not seen their new place so that was a good reason to go. We went to the front of the cab line and it turned out to be a Van Cab. So Leah got in, Geoff got in the front and then there was a moment of who was going to climb into the back between Katie and I. As we were deciding this I leaned on the van and put my hand where the front door would close. Of course as any person would do once in a car, G closed his door and of course my hand was still there. I apologize to children everywere who may of heard my scream. Thankfully I had a glove on and the booze really numbed the pain and I could bend everything I needed to bend. My fingers were sore last night but to be honest this morning I totally forgot it had happened til I started blogging. Again in reference to the bank machine issue, this could of made for a really interesting night.Once back at their place we just hung out and checked out G’s Sumo chair that he got for a Christmas present. We played a little Mario cart on the N64 (I won) and then we were off. Man that 10 minute walk home was cold. Onice home it did not take long for us to be in bed and fast asleep. Fun night in Halifax bu all.
