Can’t we all just get along?
Before Carmelo Anthony came back, all the talk around NBA circles was whether he and Allen Iverson could co-exist.
While it seems that everything is looking great in Denver (despite losing four straight recently), I have seen a very different storyline.
Yes, Melo is an awesome talent. Yes, Iverson is an amazing player with a heart of a lion. Yes, A.I. is looking for his teammates more than any point in his career (especially Melo). No, Anthony is not returning the favor.
That’s right, Carmelo Anthony is ruining this friendship just a few short games into the marriage.
Here’s why:
While watching the Nuggets lose a horrible game to the Bobcats last week, I noticed something odd. Three times in the first half A.I. looked for Anthony on the break, easily grabbing three assists in the process. Twice in the same half A.I. got the ol’ look-away from Melo. The ol’ look-away (for those who don’t know) is a basketball players pet peeve so-to-speak. When one player sees another wide open for a pass but doesn’t give him the ball.
Well Anthony did this twice to Iverson for whatever reason, I don’t know? What I do know is, having played with many a ball-hog in my college days, this is not good for team chemistry.
Is Melo trying to show Denver he is still the man there? Maybe he wants to keep his scoring totals up? Who cares?
All I know is Anthony has a great situation there. A new teammate who may be the most competitive player in NBA history (excluding MJ) that just wants to win. Now if he can find some way to give up the ball once in a while, everything will be fine.
But, if Melo keeps this up for much longer, you’ll be hearing some random Iverson quotes popping up in the media before season’s end about how he is unhappy. Next time you watch a Nuggets game, play a drinking game with your friends where you have to do a shot every time Melo looks-off Iverson on a fast break. You’ll be drunk as F*&K by game’s end. Trust me.
PS – “Hey Melo, think the NBA snubbed you for the All-Star game because of your sissy-slap against the Knicks? Nope, try watching game tapes and seeing how you hog the ball constantly.”
