We want a holiday in February
Posted by Cuzzy as Halifax, opinionsThere has been a lot of talk about starting a holiday in February in Canada. I say hell ya! Going from New Year’s day to Easter without a freebie seems crazy. Even for guys like me who work crazy hours, I would love one more day of getting some va-ca pay.
So here is Nova Scotia’s kick at the can.
Liberal Diana Whalen wants to add one more stat on the third Monday of February: Joseph Howe Day, named after the 19th-century politician and journalist credited with securing freedom of the press in Canada.
“We have the fewest in the whole country, and we need to look at the need for a little time off with family because we live such hectic lives,” says Whalen, who has proposed the holiday three times in the legislature.
“We live in a winter climate where it’s cold, it’s dark, and that’s the time when I think people could use a long weekend.”
Sounds good to me! I don’t care what you call it, call it a lame excuse for a day off but give it to us!
“The government has no plans for creating a new holiday at this time,” says Labour Minister Mark Parent.
Figures, they don’t want the rest of us to have all the time off those cool cats in Ottawa have.
What do you think??
