A Herring Cove Road man facing charges stemming from a sword-swinging incident at a metro shopping centre last month is fit to stand trial.

Ryan Allan Baker was back in Halifax provincial court Thursday after a 30-day mental assessment at East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth. He was remanded to Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth until then.

The 29-year-old returns to court March 8 for election and plea.

He is charged with assaulting a police officer with a sword, assaulting another man with the sword, resisting a police officer, threatening to cause bodily harm or death to another police officer, uttering a death threat to another man, possession of a sword dangerous to the public, theft of the sword, possession of stolen property, damaging property at the House of Knives at Halifax Shopping Centre and causing a disturbance.
