So you are lucky enough to have the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Do you go with Greg Oden or Kevin Durant??
Personally I would take Oden in a second no matter what you have on your team. A true center hardly ever comes along in the NBA. Shaq, Duncan……uh…..yah. Short of the Michael Jordan lead Bulls, you pretty much need a center to win the NBA title.
Centers do not generally develope until they have been the NBA a few years. It is hard to play against college kids who are much smaller and use fouling as a form of defense. Once it is a full time job to life weights, practice with pro coaches and think basketball 24/7 Oden is going to be scary good. Pick Oden or you will look back in 10 years and realize you missed the boat.
Normally picking the Buckeyes center would be a slam dunk but then along comes super frosh Kevin Durant. This kid and I mean kid, is out of this world good. Can shoot, pass, block shots and move faster than the plot line of 24.
I mean he is going to be an amazing NBA player and any team will be happy to have him but he does not play center. In the back of my mind all I can think of is Glen Robinson back in the days of Purdue. He killed the NCAA and was supposed to be the next great scorer. Never panned out.
Even if Oden just blocks shots and rebounds, he will be more valuable to any team than a Durant who does it all. That is how I see it so maybe Danny Ainge should read this blog.
