Madness Day 5: Let us begin with a live blog

All times are Atlantic Standard time, tough!

9:34am - Just getting the day started, tea is made and I am checking out other peoples picks in the Rock’s pool. Only three of us have G-Town going all the way. That’s good news, only three smart people to split the pot with. Okay I will be back, have to take care of all that daily life stuff before the games get going. See you later on from camp bracket.

10:13am - Just doing some last minute reading on what the experts think. I can still change a few of my brackets. I did not and I like how mine look. A lot of people are riding Wisconsin, I just don’t get it. Here is the cool graphic that ESPN has on their front page this morning, pretty fitting.

11:00am - Just put on dinner for tonight. Cooking some chili in the crock pot. I named this feast, Final Four alarm chili and it has some basketball colours in it with hot orange peppers and carrots. I am sure you will see and hear more about this food later in the day. Laundry is on, Bosco is walked, only a few more hours until it all begins.

12:34pm - Just setting up HQ for the afternoon and printing out the picks. I have to go get some lunch but I will be back in time for tip off in just under and hour. Hope you can join me.

1:00pm - All ready for some game action, just 20 minutes now.

1:20pm - First game - Davidson vs. Maryland

Food: pizza and beer, Mood: excited, Interest: not too high yet

Look out for D.J. Strawberry, I have the Terps to win but if Davidson does, they have some Canadians on the team so that would be cool. Pizza is hot and the weather is cold. I wonder if anyone is checking in on me?

1:25pm - On the move, now we got Boston College vs. Texas Tech. Pizza went down great, beer is cold and Bobby Knight is about to do his thing. I got TT winning this one. Never been a fan of the Eagles.

1:39pm - Uh oh I picked Stanford to beat Louisville and the Cards are already up by 10. Other than that things are going as planned. Beer number two going on. Bosco and Mercy are sawing logs next to me.

1:53pm - Okay so its still the first half but there is an upset alert, Davidson is winning 32-27 with 6 minutes left in the first half.

2:05pm - Thanks for showing up Stanford. You can rub them off the board. They are down by 20. Halftime equals break time.

2:27pm - Well Stanford is done, Maryland is winning by one and Texas Tech and BC are tied. Does anyone else think the logo at center court of the BC game looks like Mr. Burns? I have the party mix open now and have been thinking I should pace myself since it is going to be a long day.

2:39pm - Davidson is up by 8 in the second half. Maybe the first upset of the day. Good action so far, the experts at CBS seem to think the faves are all going to win today. Have they watched this tourney before, of course there will be upsets. Bosco could not care less, he is waiting for Georgetown to take the floor.

3:09pm - Stanford is long gone, they are down almost 30 points. Looks like Maryland is going to avoid the upset and Texas Tech and BC are too close to call. Deciding on whether to watch CBS or The Score. Not a fan of the score dude who has to reference a movie every 10 seconds. We get it you think you are sharp. BC is pulling ahead sadly, I thought the Red Raiders were good for some upset points. My brackets are already falling apart.

3:16pm - BC moves on, 84-75. My record is off to a great start, 0-1. I think I need a tea to get ready for the second set of games. Maryland is going to hold on so I should get my first win. Did I mention that Stanford sucks ass.

3:34pm - First set of games are over and my record is 1-2. Time to pick up the pace and hope to do well on the next set. Got the tea steeping and Bosco has moved over to the big boys couch since the Hoyas are coming on soon. I have them winning the whole thing so they better come through.

3:40pm - Okay the next set are underway and I have my big points game on now. I picked Oral Roberts to beat Washington State. This is a huge buster game for me and if I don’t get it I think I am screwed. I’m going with Seth Davis on this one and it better pay off. I am excited for this How I Met Your Mother on Monday, if you don’t watch, it is a pretty funny show.

3:50pm - Georgetown vs. Belmont is on now, man is Roy Hibbert huge. Food: Three beers down, almost all the pizza, some party mix and a tea on the go. Mood: A little down due to being 1-2 so far. Other news: Bosco moved back to the chair, guess he thinks the Georgetown game is over already. Interesting dilema: Tonight will it be more ball or Grey’s Anatomy?

4:17pm - Jackson was taunting me about the Hoyas slow start but they are coming back. This live blog will come to an end fast if G-Town were to lose. My bracket would be over. Feeling a little full so I am going to lay back and just enjoy the ball for a bit. Need to clear space in my belly for tonight’t Final Four alarm chili that is slow cooking as we speak.

4:53pm - Nice to see Moose is back renting cars again. So Oral Roberts had the upset special on the go but they have fallen back. I hope Old Dominion can give me some points. Texas A&M and Georgetown are doing their thing now. Sweet. Closing in on 5pm out here, time to start thinking about dinner. I can at least go feed Bosco.

5:18pm - Katie is going to be late, that just means more time for ball. I blew the Oral Roberts game, thanks Seth. Old Dom is still close and I need that one bad for the upset points. Georgetown and the Aggies are bringing home the wins but everyone has them. Commercials are not getting to me yet, they seem to be very well spread out and varied. I figured they would be all about those dudes with the cell phones. Can you believe I have gone all day without mentioning the Raps big win against the Knicks last night!

5:32pm - Ah crap Butler has taken over, there goes that upset. My brackets are in the dumper and I have not even had dinner yet. Better get better this evening. At least I have tasty chili to look forward to. I wonder when the Rock’s are going to get home??

The cast of How I Met Your Mother has their picks listed on the cbssportsline site. Gotta love my girl Cobie Smulders who also has Georgetown winning the whole thing. What a smart Canadian she is.

5:41pm - Upset alert, Penn and Texas A&M are neck and neck with 10 minutes to go. A lot of people have the Aggies going far so that would be a bracket buster for sure. At this point I could use it, just to mess everyone else up. Butler is going to win, damn. How is everyone else doing with their picks?

5:52pm - Just checked the Rock pool and I am in second last. Man every year it is the same thing haha, I should just send my money and not even fill out a bracket. Oh well it is fun and you never know my luck could turn. Think I am going to shut the live blog down for a bit, it was fun but when the only person reading it is me, it is no big deal to slack off. Talk to you all later.

11:08pm - So I recovered a little bit this evening. Even though I had Duke winning today it was sweet to see them lose. With that upset, let the tournament officially begin. Big games on right now with the Zags playing the Hoosiers. Anyways I have to work tomorrow so I am turning in. I will have basketball in front of me all day tomorrow so I will try to check in. There will be no snacks or beer but it will still be fun watching all the hoops.
