Stop the presses someone over at the Canadian Press discovered this site called Facebook. Wow that is some story digging.

Opening a Facebook account for the first time

TORONTO — I felt like I was the last person to be on Facebook.

At first I thought it would fade, like Friendster did, if I could just wait it out.

But somehow it stuck and membership among my friends grew at an astonishing speed. I buckled under the pressure of constantly being asked, “Are you on Facebook?”

It became apparent I was missing out when I went out with my friends and they discussed the latest Facebook happenings like it was breaking news. Whole conversations revolved around the interactions in this online world — who was involved with who, who got a job where, whose pictures showed a fabulous vacation.

So a few weeks ago I relented and opened an account, much to the delight of friends who thought they’d finally cracked me.

It used to be that a user could only register with an e-mail address from a university or college. Then, it opened up to high school students in 2005. Now, all you need to join Facebook is a valid e-mail address.

I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of features Facebook offered. Over and above the standard profile options (contact information, interests, favourite movies and books), I could provide my education history, my employment history, the courses I was taking and even my plans for spring break.

Now I have been using it for a bit and it really has no use other than killing time at work. I did get in touch with a few friends that I had lost email addresses for but really it is all about the time kill.

I communicate with my sister a lot more and see some pretty funny pictures of people so it is not that bad.

If you want to add me, just look me up and send a request my way. You can see my fancy facebook widget down the right hand side of the page.

Now back to your daily routine.
