Big TVs a threat to kids

Big televisions pose a big risk for youngsters, two Halifax doctors say in a new journal article.

More than 100 Nova Scotia children were injured, some of them seriously, by televisions they pulled down on themselves between 1990 and 2002, doctors Stephanie Dotchin and Kevin Gordon of the IWK Health Centre report in the current issue of Paediatrics and Child Health.

A two-year-old Ontario girl was reportedly killed by a falling TV in 2005.

In an article titled “The terrible truth about toppling televisions,” the doctors say the case of a four-year-old boy they treated after he pulled a 27-inch-wide television onto his face prompted them to investigate the problem.

My first thought is why are kids touching the TV??? You don’t touch the TV ever, not even when you are a teenager. Go buy your own TV to break and fall underneath.

If a giant TV falls on you I think that is your problem, not the large piece of entertainment wonder. I have mananged to live 32 years on this earth and I have never come close to getting smushed by a TV.

I watch TVs and I love TVs, I don’t pull them off stands or try to climb on top of one. You know when the cat gets up on top of the TV and falls off. We all laugh……I don’t see it being any different with a little kid.

Keep your hands of kiddies and life will be kind to you.
