Last night lost in the excitement of the Nelly Furtado awards and another gripping episode of The Amazing Race something special happened that you may not be aware of. For the first time in years the Toronto Raptors clinched a playoff spot when they beat the Bobcats at home. It was their 41st win of the year and considering they started out 2-8 I would have to say we should be all very impressed. There is still work to do for playoff seeding and making the division title theirs but the Raps are in the playoffs even if they lose every game from now on.
I am a big Raps fan and I was very excited when Toronto hired Colangelo but I did not have any idea the team would turn this fast. Not only did they turn, they turned into a good team without selling the future. They actually made their future better by going younger, freeing up cap room and putting together a group of guys who actually like each other.
I was on the Sam hater bandwagon for a time but I have to apologize and say he has done a great job this year. If it were not for Jerry Sloan in Utah, Sam would win Coach of the Year for sure. It will be interesting to see what happens to Sam next season. Anyways I would be a nice playoff run would help sign a new contract for him.

As for the playoffs, it is not a done deal that they get in and go home. This team could make some noise and they will be a tough team to knock out. All they lack in experience and sometimes that is over rated. If they can avoid Miami in the first round I think they can move on. From there I can’t really say until I see who they play but the East sucks so any team thatt gets hot can roll right to the finals where they will get killed by the West.
The atmosphere at the ACC for the first playoff game will be amazing. I only wish I was still living in TO so today I could start working every angle to try and be in the building for it. The best part is this is not going to be a one time thing. This team is very young and will only get better and you know with BC running the ship he will not allow it to go down. Free agents are going to be fighting over each other to come to Toronto now and there will be no more cheap shots at the city for the lack of soul food or the metric system.
True Raptors fans walk around today with a smile, the dark days are over. Take off those Hoffa paper bags and be proud of the team you once were proud to call your own. Isiah, Vince, Alonzo and all those other turds are wishing they were here now and for most of them, they are going to be golfing at the end of the month.
Way to go boys, you make us proud.
Check out this interesting piece over on Raptorblog, could not of said it better myself.
I just saw things may of gotten even better for Toronto. Caron Butler of the Wiz broke his hand,
Okay now we really have to play the Wiz.
