No really it is a lovely place to visit, look at how I turned out
Okay so it is in the best supporting actor category but it is a category and coming number three is pretty good when you grow up thinking the place is a bit dumpy.
What am I talking about? Well Sarnia made the top-10 list of micro cities of the future - those with a population under 100,000 according to Foreign Direct Investment, the business magazine of the Financial Times of London. Sarnia was No. 3 and Fredericton, N.B., was No. 8. The winner in that category was Zapata, Texas.
In the other categories there was some Canadian content as well.
Toronto was named runner-up in the magazine’s ranking of North America’s Cities of the Futur. Chicago was the winner.
Windsor was named the top small North American city of the future, beating out Huntsville, Ala., for cities with populations between 100,000 and 500,000. London, Ont., was No. 4 and Waterloo came in at No. 5, while Chatham, at No. 9, and Saskatoon rounded out the top 10.
I have lived in Sarnia, London, Windsor and Toronto and can say that is some pretty cool news.
Cities were grouped in four categories, according to population, and rated on seven criteria: Economic potential, cost effectiveness, human resources, quality of life, infrastructure, business friendliness and development and investment promotion.
Toronto was selected as the top major city for quality of life, man and I thought I was upgrading my quality of life by leaving!
I’m sure Halifax would of made the list but at the last minute our good mayor decided on his own to take us out of the running because we don’t want to be considered a real city. Oh snap!
