I have watched NBA basketball since the wonder years of my life. I have watched it go through CBS, NBC and now to the current ABC/ESPN mess that is on every weekend.

I feel very torn because it is the playoffs and I really enjoy the NBA this time of year but at the same time I have to say the coverage provided by ESPN/ABC is garbage.

Why can’t they do it more like TNT who actually seem to care about basketball and not so much about cross-marketing with every product known to man.

Okay I am sure TNT does it too but seeing as I can’t think of it, they must know how to do it with a subtle style.

Here is a list as to why I am tired of the games on ABC each weekend and wishing for more TNT.

  • To start, the brutal “Right Now” think they got going on with the Pussycat Dolls. Yah the main chick is hot but the song grates on me. Previous years they have used Destiny’s Child and Rob Thomas. Yep they are in tune with what basketball is all about.
  • Do we have to have a fave five every halftime? I mean come on yesterday we had to listen to Chris Duhon’s favourite fave point guards. Are you asking who Chris Duhon is? My point exactly.
  • This next point may have to do with the fact that at work I have ESPN in front of me all day. I am tired of the ABC/ESPN family using the same guys for everything. They are on PTI, halftime and everywhere else in between. Kind of makes me feel like I am getting only one person’s thoughts for a whole network.
  • Mark Jackson, brutal.
  • Mike Breen, ditto.
  • They no longer show games in the afternoon unless it is Sunday and then it usually is only one game. I remember the days of NBA triple headers.
  • Fantastic Four trailers with NBA clips tossed in.
  • Even if the Heat are not playing I swear they talk about D-Wade all the time.
  • Half time is all commercials.
  • Don’t get me wrong Eva is hot but I don’t need to see her 14 times a game and have her talked about so much. Okay I get it, she is in an ABC show.
  • Give us more Bill Walton, yep I actually said it.
  • All the games in the Finals are at 9pm ET. That really is not ABC’s fault but when I have to stay up til 10:20 Atlantic time just to see tip off someone needs to be blamed.
  • I want Ahmad Rashad!

Anyways that is my little rant.

For those of you who did not see it on Saturday night, here is Steve Nash getting sacked.
