My Mum has only four days of work left before she calls it a day. For the last 30 plus years my mother has been the librarian in Corunna, Ontario. She is very excited to check out that last book and start to enjoy the good life. To honour such a major accomplishment I thought I would take a walk back in time and share my memories of the Corunna library and all it had to offer. Congrats Mum, you have worked hard and now it is your time to relax.

  • The heavy doors to enter the library, both of them.
  • Always reading the pages posted on the bulletin board in between the heavy doors.
  • Back in the day it took a long time for the copier to heat up.
  • How the one chair at the back corner table was higher than the others.
  • All the stuffed animals and nature pieces.
  • The triangular display case.
  • Feeling like a big shot sitting at the main desk in the high chair.
  • The shiny tiled floor.
  • Always knowing when someone was coming in because the door whooshes.
  • Doing my homework in the backroom.
  • Getting to use the employee washroom.
  • Always snooping through the drawers and finding all kinds of cool stuff.
  • The very long phone cord.
  • All the old magazines behind the door.
  • Getting to keep all the old Sports Illustrated magazines.
  • The table tops were very slippery.
  • Getting bored of homework and going over the Big V.
  • Ample supply of stationary products.
  • Deep drawers on the front desk.
  • Seeing my Mum’s suprised face when I showed up.
  • Going to pick my Mum up when I first started driving.
  • Going down to use the Internet when I visited home.

If only I had many pictures of this place to share but that was back in the day before I had a camera. Go figure.
