Last night I watched Shooter staring Mark Wahlberg. It was one of those movies I saw a trailer for and thought I would totally enjoy that even though it looks like many other movies and is sure to be lacking any Oscar performances.

Well it was a perfect Tuesday night flick, a lot of action, stuff blowing up and of course shooting. I have never understood fully my fascination with snipers or long shooters in movies, video games or war history. Back when we were younger my friend Kevin and eye loved the movie Sniper with Tom Berenger and Billy Zane and used to pretend we were snipers in the woods or fields. No guns of course but you can always plan out the shot in your head.

The film is about a marksman (Wahlberg) who is living in exile and then coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he goes on the run to track the real killer and find out who exactly set him up, and why.

Sounds a lot like the Bourne movies eh? Everything but the memory loss and Damon’s mugg. To be honest I liked Shooter better than the two Bourne movies so far. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I have read a few of the Bourne books and they butcher the movies.

One annoying feature of this movie was Danny Glover. Not that he was bad but why on earth did they feel the need to give him such an irritating lisp?? It did not add any mystery or depth to his character and just made me wish his talking was over.

If you have ever daydreamed about sitting in a bush and lining someone up in the cross-hairs from hundreds of feet away waiting for the perfect shot, this movie will entertain you.

If you like Mark Wahlberg having his shirt off a lot this movie will entertain you. For the guys, Kate Mara is pretty hot as well although she is clothed.

If you are sick of watching America’s Got Talent or Pirate Masters…..this movie is for you!
