Well it has been some time since I did a classic water cooler post but there is a lot to talk about and I don’t feel like doing multiple posts.

Hunting season over

So the Ducks finally put Ottawa out of their misery last night ending a very quick and boring Stanley Cup. It was a good example of the whole playoffs really. Very little drama and most of the series were over fast. I still have a few memories of the Canucks-Stars series that was probably the best hockey of the whole two months. So now we are going to have to listen to the experts talk about how much Ottawa sucks for at least a week since they all have time left on their seasonal contract. Simple truth is the Ducks were a far superior team, case closed.

Also the showdown of hockey gods has ended in another fashion. Kevin won the picks battle and he will be granted the spoils the next time I see him. The Doctor has won himself bragging rights and a large plate of fries with a frosty brew. I am sure he is very excited for that. Way to go Kev!

One more thing about the hockey before I turn off the zamboni. Can we stop with this fans singing part of the National Anthems at every game! Last year when it happened in Edmonton it was in the moment and the fans were passionate about their Oilers and really meant it. It was chilling to see and listen too. Now every game it seems so forced and produced. It is like the singers are told to hold the mic out and a certain part of the song and hope people join in. Last night in Anaheim it was almost sad. By the way NBC did not even show it. Okay hockey is done.

Hot Cuzz

Yep last night after seeing the Sens go down 2-0 I gave up and put on a movie. I was pretty excited for this one, Hot Fuzz by the boys who brought you Shaun of the Dead. It lived up to it’s billing for me and provided a lot of laughs. It was a lot of dry and subtle Brit humour of course mixed in with a lot of parody of American action movies.

The plot is as follows. Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner. On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events

Highlights of the film include the withless new partner played by Nick Frost, all the movie references, the fact that a few of the British Office folk were in it and the small part played by Lucy Punch. Okay so here performance was not great in the movie but it reminded me of this classic moment from TV’s The Class.

The soundtrack is also worth checking out if you are into that kind of thing.

Who is Will Traveler?

Well to find that out you will have to join me in watching a new (leftover?) show on ABC that starting airing at the end of the season and is going to keep running through the summer. The show is called Traveler and is about two graduate students, who on a dare from their long time friend Will Traveler skate around a museum for a prank. After they leave the museum it explodes and the FBI are called in when it appears to be terrorist related. The two friends soon become suspects and it appears that Will set them up to make it look like they did the bombing. Fog and Jay tell the FBI about Traveler but they are told that no one called Will Traveler ever existed.

I will be honest I was a little bored and needed a new series to follow so I tried out the first few shows. I am now semi-hooked and hope it actually goes somewhere and does not get canned like a few other ABC shows I was watching this year (The Nine). The acting is all okay and it kind of fills my Prison Break void to a degree. I guess I would best describe it as Prison Break on the WB network if that helps anyone out.

It is on Wednesday nights in case you want to start to follow it.

Thundercats, thundercats, thundercats…..what?

Following the soon-to-be -released Transformers and the recently-announced He-Man comes yet another afternoon ‘toon from my childhood making its way to the silver screen.

This time, it’s ThunderCats, an animated series that aired in the 1980s and focused on a group of warriors that looked like a meld of both human and feline. Warner Bros. has optioned a script from Paul Sopocy for the live-action, feature-length adaptation.

Man this should be a train wreck, I cannot for the life of me see how they pull this off so someone will actually want to see it. What is next? Voltron maybe?

NBA back tonight

After what seems like a month, the NBA Finals are on tonight. If you are a reader of this blog you probably know I am not really into watching it but I most likely will do the odd post about it. For those of you who care, here are the Cuzoogle picks by a whos-who of the Cuzoogle community. It is not to late to get your picks in. I doubt I will see much of the game tonight, it will not tip off until 10:20 local time and by then I will not care to give it a chance.

Katie returns

Not only is the NBA back today but so is Katie. She returned this morning from Saint John very early. Her usual flight out on Wednesday night was full so the bi-provincial blur had to get up at 4am today to come back. Ouch. It will be nice to see her later today that is for sure. The farm can go back to normal since they are probably sick of dealing with just me.
