Good morning everyone how did you sleep? It is another lovely day here in Halifax and that must mean it is the first day of summer. Ah hell, it is actually raining and cold and it is getting me pretty angry because the last thing I saw before falling asleep was a weather chick saying it was going to be 19 and sunny today. I really wonder how forecasting the weather is a job, they are never right. Anyways here is what is going down.

Gladiator on speed

Since Katie is away it gave me a good chance to sit back and watch a guy’s movie last night without someone hiding under a pillow or asking what the character’s feelings were (okay Katie does not ask about feelings). I checked out 300, the Frank Miller adaptation staring a large number of ripped guys killing everything in site. I had heard many reviews ranging from super home-erotic to over the top violent to what I mentioned about, Gladiator on speed.

I found it to be the latter and it reminded me a lot of Gladiator with the music and the artsy field shots and some of the imagery. The difference of course is Gladiator had one Maximus and this flick had 300 of them. Picture the fight scenes from Braveheart but make them all muscle-bound Greeks with giant shields and swords.

The style and look of this movie was amazing. I did not get tired of the slow motion shots at all which I was expecting a sensation of watching a John Woo movie or something. Yah so what if all the guys had makeup on and looked like they were wearing body shirts that made those abs jump out at you like it was 3D, it was a good time.

This movie could of easily been four hours long but they broke down the story to be pretty simple. 300 dudes stand in one spot and shit-kick all comers. I think my favourite part was seeing what was coming over the hill next. The range of evil forces was quite amazing to look at and I could not stop staring at King Xerxes. That guy was large and in charge for sure.

My only regret for this movie is that I did not see it on the big screen. I am guessing it would of been over the top amazing and my head would of exploded like one of those poor Persian guys from all the action and stunning visuals.

Sparta, you did me proud.

Milanos mania

If you are a regular reader of the blog you know my never ending battle with the parking out front and Milanos, the eatery on the corner. I was unable to get a picture for the list but I do have a story to share that I bet will get some laughs.

I was driving home after working my fourth day in a row of 12 hour shifts so you can say I was very happy and tired and I just wanted to get home. All is well, I hit all the lights and I may of broken a record for getting home. I rounded the corner onto my street and there it was, the worst parking job I have ever seen. A car was literally two feet over the edge of the driveway and with all the other cars on the street (parked legally) I was unable to even turn into the driveway.

Anger erupted. I leaned on the horn for almost 10 seconds hoping someone’s guilt would hit them and they would come out. No dice. SO I left the car on the street and headed for Milanos. Luckily there was a staff member outside dealing with an overflow of customers. She clearly could tell I was annoyed right away. I as nicely as I could said I had just got home from working for 12 hours and just want to get into my driveway. I then said I don’t have time to wait around and I would go home and call whoever to get that car towed away.

She said okay and headed in to find out who it was. The milling people outside of course had to check it out and they were all making comments on how bad a parking job it was. I and waited, car still in the street, luckily nobody else was trying to get up or down the road. I had only said it was a blue car and as I looked around there were three blue cars all around the area. So this woman comes out and goes to one on the other side of the street and checks her car. Nope not her.

Finally as I was about to go in the house and call someone this women came out. She was all happy and whatever and was like who’s driveway am I blocking as if she did not buy it. I showed her and she was in shock she did it. She then goes on about how she lives on a street where the same thing happens and knows what I mean. I am thinking and yet you did it anyways.

So she pulls up and kept saying, I don’t want to block the other driveway, how can I fit? I as nicely (about to lose it) as I could said, I don’t really care as long as I can get in the driveway. Then I said that is not actually a parking space and then you could see her eyes finally notice the large NO PARKING sign posted right there.

Anyways she pulled out all together and God knows where she parked but I did not really care. Some people are clueless when they are hungry I guess.

Anyways got the car in, walked the dog and there was no car parked there for the rest of the night. Maybe…..just maybe Milanos got the message. My only thought was how Katie would of handled that one. Poor, poor Milanos………they can only hope it never comes to that.

Today’s plan

Well until the rain stops I think it will be a day of house cleaning and catching up on TV shows. Rescue Me is downloading as we speak. I hope whereever you are it is nice and you are having a great day.
