I know Canadian televsion has gotten a bad name over the years but I have to say that ReGenesis is a show that could possibly even make it in the United States if it found a time slot and a decent following.
I have been watching since it first aired on The Movie Network here in Canada a few years ago and just finished watching season three. It took some time to get into it and buy into the characters and storylines but once I was in I needed to see more.
I would describe the show as a little bit of CSI and a little bit of 24 rolled into one show that still likes to focus on the characters personal lives. Think of it as CSI but instead of solving crimes they are trying to stop outbreaks. The actual science is most likely not 100% accurate but they certainly don’t dumb it down like CSI does. I mean half the time I do not know what they are talking about or trying to explain but I don’t care, it sounds cool.
The story lines also kind of creep me out because I doubt they are that far off from the truth and everyday the world is on the verge of some outbreak that we never hear of.
The cast is very good I think. The main character of David Sandstrom is played by Peter Outerbridge who to me comes across as Canada’s David Caruso without the cheesy one-liners.
The music and the style of the show I think is the best freature. It is slick and stylish and does not say Canadian made in any way other than the street shots of Toronto. The opening theme is amazing and it really sticks with you.
The series is broadcast on Global, Sci-fi (UK), The Movie Network, Movie Central, Arte (France and Germany) and Calle 13 (Spain). The first season of the series was also available on The Movie Network’s on demand service, available on Cogeco Cable and Rogers Cable. In September 2007 they will start airing in syndication in the United States via Sony-distributed Program Partners. In Fall 2007 WOWOW will begin airing ReGenesis in Japan.
If you are looking for a new series to try out this summer I would highly suggest getting your hands of at least season 1 and give it a shot. At least let the show sink in before you give up on it. By the end of season 3 there are some great plot twists and even larger actor names added to the cast.
Thier tag line “Rethink Everything” is the perfect fit once you check it out.

Never seen it. Will have to give it a go. “House” is far and away my favorite show on TV as of now.
