There are increasing rumours floating around that the Toronto Raptors are going to move Jose Calderon in the next few days before or during the draft. I figure I might as well weigh in on this one before it happens or does not happen.
Pros
- Value is super high after how he played in the playoffs.
- Many teams are in need of a PG.
- BC can pretty much ask for what he wants since it is the other teams most likely calling him.
- Odds are good they can get the swingman they want out of it.
- It is easier to find a backup PG than it is to find a starting swingman that is good.
- Maybe his growth last year was him peaking.
- He is a free-agent next year and won’t want to be a backup I would suspect.
Cons
- I am not sold that you mess with a good thing. One of Toronto’s strengths was the two-headed point guard.
- Jose would come off the bench and carve up the other team.
- If T.J. gets hurt again there is some insurance. Ford is a small and aggressive player and will get injured now and then.
- He has a great attitude and fits in perfectly with the Euro style.
- Katie wanted me to mention it would suck cause he is a cute little flea out there.
- Who would do the hand signals?
I would hate to see him go but I have full faith that if he does the team will be better because of it. Tough decisions have to be made and BC has shown he can make them. Just like Bonner and Charlie, the fans will be mad at first but come mid-season when the team is killing, everyone will once again forget all about Jose. (I hope for the team’s sake)
RUMOR MILL: Asked about the Jazz and starting small forward Andrei Kirilenko during a recent online chat, ESPN.com NBA writer Chad Ford dropped this little nugget: “I heard they almost moved Kirilenko at the trade deadline to the Raptors for Mo Peterson and change.”
