Came across a pretty cool site today that fills you in on just how safe it is to walk in your neighbourhood. The website is called Walk Score and it helps people find walkable places to live. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc.

I typed in some addresses at was suprised that the places I thought would be less safe actually had a high score. I was talking to my friend online about it as we tried addresses from our past and it pretty much comes down to a place with more stuff around it got a higher score.

For example an apartment I used have in Toronto was in a pretty sketchy area and it scored a 85. Then a house that my friend lived in while growing up in a small town scored a 6.

So even though the numbers could be misleading I still think it is a very cool site to check out.
