Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh withdrew from U.S. basketball training camp Wednesday because of a left foot injury.

Bosh has plantar fasciitis and will not play in the FIBA Americas tournament that starts next week.

”This is real tough for me but I have to be safe, that’s what the doctors told me,” Bosh said in a statement. ”They said it could evolve into something worse than what it is now. It’s real tough and disappointing right now and I have to stay calm. I still feel like I’m a part of the team and I’m here to show my support and show that I’m serious about being a part of the team.”

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said the injury will not affect Bosh’s status in Toronto’s upcoming training camp.

”Chris is experiencing lingering soreness and he felt that rather than participate with the national team in this competition, and worsen the condition, he felt it better to take off the next six weeks to get ready for training camp, ” Colangelo told The Canadian Press.
