A few weeks ago I got an email from Michael at Rocket XL and he wanted me to hlep promote a new mini-series on Spike TV called Kill Point.
Of course I said yes and was very excited to help out and do some promoting on my blog. The dvds came in the mail on Friday and yesterday on a rainy day in Halifax, Katie and I sat down and watched the first two discs which consisted of the first 2 hours and 45 minutes of the show. Here is what we thought so far.
Kill Point - Starring Donnie Wahlberg and John Leguizamo
When the show first started it kind of made me think of two other productions I have seen recently. The failed series The Nine on ABC and the movie Inside Man with Denzel Washington. But as the show moved on it changed course from those two and formed into it’s own show and story.
I do not like to give away plot twists or events that happen because I want others to watch as I just did but I will say first off that for Spike TV this show is a breakthrough. The production value is very high and there are very credible actors in the show. Other than the main two stars, there are actors that have worked on Prison Break and other successful televison productions. The writing is good, giving characters a personality and conflict.
I liked the angle they took with Mr. Wolf (Leguizamo) and giving him a human side that makes the audience feel for him. Wahlberg was very similar to the character he played a few years ago on Boomtown but it is okay because he does it very well. I think over a mini-series you have time to develope the smaller traits of a character that may be too much in a two hour movie.
Both Katie and I were somewhat hooked and wanted to see more once we finished seeing what we had. I thought the action was impressive and the suspense was above average for a television show. I hope this is the start of something more for Spike TV productions and for a first shot at things this series is really good. I know most people’s first reaction is, that is a Spike TV production? It looks like something from one of the main three networks or even a cable channel.
FX has made a name for having impressive shows and maybe Spike TV will be next in line? I will sum up with this, if you like series with action along the lines of 24 or Alias or The Nine before it was canned, this show will interest you. The premise is not new but how they attack it and lead the story is different and the acting from Leguizamo is very appealing.
For more information and several clips of the show you can go to their website. I believe you can even download the show straight from the site.
It worked out well for us because it was a rainy afternoon but this show certainly has the pop to draw in an audience and create a following. I want to see what happens next and so will you.
