The proposed Twisted Sisters highrise development has cleared a major hurdle.

On Thursday, the Utility and Review Board threw out a heritage appeal against United Gulf’s 27-storey twin glass towers, to be built on the former Tex-Park site in downtown Halifax.

“It’s not only a great day for me but a great day for Halifax,” said developer Navid Saberi.

The city needs a change right now, he said.

“Our project, by itself, would be a good start. But all these other projects will come along behind it and complement it and revitalize downtown Halifax.

“There are a lot of people wanting to do something but they’ve been held back for such a long time.”
