I began writing this on Sunday

Wow what a long day. It is 4:11am and I am finally getting to the recap of Cape Breton. We got home several hours ago and I am now at work. Since I don’t really have a lunch to eat I might as well take some time and catch you all up on the weekend.

Friday I packed up the car and went to pick Katie up at work. Bosco was very excited to hit the road and the weather was ideal. Once Katie was in the car we were off. First was the bridge and before we knew it we were buzzing past the airport and headed toward highway 104.

The plan was to make it to Cape Breton by mid-afternoon and check in the Bras D’Or Inn. All went to plan of course and we did not get lost once. I did the driving for the first leg while Katie munched on some lunch I had made for her. Bosco was pretty fidgety in the car but he eventually settled down in the back and slept.

The drive was pretty boring until we approached the Causeway which took us over to Cape Breton. The mountains started to get closer and closer and the scenery increased in beauty. The only downside was our recent trip out west may of taken some of the spark out of seeing the mountains. They are pretty amazing but next to seeing the Rockies, they just did not cut it. Sorry CB we should of visited you first.

Once over the Causeway (which took seconds) we drove on to the Inn. We stayed at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn which is located in St. Peters Nova Scotia. It was a small place with a population of 800 people. We checked in and went to see the room and it was pretty impressive. Nice big TV, two beds (one for Bosco), a fridge and a cool little table to sit at.

Once we dropped off our stuff it was time to check out the grounds and give Bosco a much needed run after three plus hours in the car. Right out the door was a dock and a lake so you know what that meant……swimming for Bosco.

I was trying to get him to jump in the water off the dock but he would not do it. Instead I would throw a stick in the water, he would run to the end of the dock and watch it float away, then run back to the shore and swim after the stick.

We did this for a bit so we could tire him out before we did our own thing. Turns out the family that owns the Inn also has a chocolate lab. Their dog was named Bailey and she was almost two years old. They brought her down to meet Bosco and the two crazy chocolates ran around and pretty much cleared the area of people. So funny to see chocolates get together.

Once Bosco had had enough we went back to the room and I tossed him in the shower to wash off the lake smell. From here Katie had a little nap and I relaxed by flipping the channels.

Later on we went and checked out the Lounge for dinner. I had fish and chips and Katie had lobster on a roll. You could tell everything was home made and the fries were really something. We had dessert and coffee and tea and went back to the room.

On a side note it was the Celtic Festival of Colours in Cape Breton so everywhere you went there was traditional music playing. I think I commented during dinner that I felt like I was in Braveheart.

Once back at the room we had some beer and wine and played a fierce game of scrabble where I ended up winning by one point. The memory from this game will always be the word “taze” that I got away with and Katie is still kicking herself for not challenging.

We watched the Yankees-Indians bug game and slowly drifted to sleep. Long day ahead, might as well get some rest.

Day 2 and more pictures to come
