Before you read all about day two of our trip to Cape Breton you should read about Day 1 if you have not.

Day two

Katie and I woke up bright and early and could tell it was going to be a great day. It was hard to sleep for many reasons but mostly because every time one of us would move, Bosco would get excited and his tail would start thumping on the other bed. He likes it when there is the chance of people getting up to play with him.

After feeding Bosco and going for a quick walk, we both started packing up and getting set to head out. Once all ready we headed back over to the lounge for brunch. Again, great food but it was funny because it was the first place I have ever been that ran out of orange juice for brunch.

I had some scrambled eggs, sausage and toast and that would probably have to make due until we reached our next destination in Cheticamp.

I took Bosco for one more walk before we all got in the car, waved so long to Bailey and hit the road to find the Cabot Trail.

Katie was behind the wheel for this leg of the trip and she was pretty excited to take on her alter ego of Katie Cruise. We headed northeast towards Sydney and then up to the west to join the trail.

The fall foliage was in full colour everywhere we looked and sadly the pictures I took can’t do it justice. After about two hours we stopped for a break just as we were about to get on the Trail

The weather was perfect and the famous views were only moments away.

As we got on the Trail we could see the elevation in our sights. Mountains and winding roads as far as the eye could see with the deep blue ocean on our right side.

The great part about being in the passenger seat was I got to take pictures. I will post some soon but I am not at my home computer at the moment.

The Cabot Trail drive took about four hours with many pull overs to take pictures and to just take in the sea air.

I was a little concerned at first because the road and scenery was not as jaw dropping as I thought it was going to be. Luckily once we got about half way it really picked up.

The wind really picked up and the temperature dropped as we went higher and higher. I think at one point it was down to 9 Celcius.

There was another couple that seemed to be five minutes behind us and they were always stopping to take pictures as well. It made us feel like we were on Amazing Race.

As we neared Cheticamp we pulled over to a beach to let Bosco run around and we stretched our legs. I got a little obsessed with trying to capture some cool crashing wave shots while Katie just admired the view.

We drove a little more to the stop for the night. The Parkview Motel.

It was nothing fancy but it was enough for us. The view and location was amazing and that made up for the Bates Motel feeling you could easily get.

The room was very no frills but once again there were two beds so of course Bosco got his own.

The TV was small and the volume could only be controlled from the front of the set. There was no fridge and even an ant trap in the bathroom.

We were both starving so after a dog walk and a quick change we drove into Cheticamp in search of somewhere to eat.

After surveying the strip we settled on Le Gabriel Restaurant and as it turned out I was pretty happy we did. They had a Thanksgiving dinner special and since we were going to miss out on that Sunday and Monday I took advantage.

Katie for whatever bizarre reason went with fish cakes and as soon as my dinner came I think she wished she thought that one out better.

Turkey, stuffing, mash and carrots. It was perfect. Some lemon meringue pie and tea to follow and I was stuffed.

We sat and enjoyed listening to and watching a table full of this odd motorcycle gang that were there celebrating a birthday.

After all the fun we headed back to the motel to digest, relax and finish off some wine that we started the night before.

Katie wanted a rematch of scrabble so I humoured her. It was a slaughter! Ha ha okay it was not that bad but I moved my weekend record to 2-0. She got tazed!

I watched some hockey and before we knew it the news was on and we were pooped. SNL was on but sadly I had to turn it off because the TV had no sleep feature.

Day 2 ended the same way Day 1 did. Bosco passed out on one bed and us in the other trying to keep warm on a cold Cape Breton night.

How will the trip end? Stay tuned for day 3.
