If you are a Toronto Raptors fan like me, you know the value of Jose Calderon. He is the best reserve point gaurd in the NBA and could easily start for a number of teams. At the end of this season Calderon will be on the open market and will be sure to being in high-priced offers. I suggest we start buttering him up now, so he stays in Toronto for many years to come.

Dear Jose,

Hey Jose how is it going? The season is starting off slow but your game is already at an All-Star level. I know you don’t like to talk about contracts and money during the season but it must be on your mind that soon GMs from all around the league will be after your services.

You run the offense like a General and you don’t turn the ball over. Your fire and passion to succeed filters down into the whole team and from the looks of things your teamates love to play with you.

I always marvel at how you have no problem backing up T.J. and never showing signs of envy. He is the high-priced point guard and it makes sense that he starts. But as you know he does get injured from time to time and you are always ready to step in.

So my question to you is, what is it going to take to keep you in Toronto for many seasons to come?

The obvious answer is a nice big fat contract from BC and the team. I hope you get it and at the same time not hurting the teams financial flexibility.

I think you love the team and the city and want to stay. A new contract and a raise will certainly be good for everyone.

Will Garbo’s future influence your choice? I know he is a good friend and that has to be taken into consideration.

All I want to say as a fan is do you want to be a part of a team on the rise or do you want to go elsewhere for big bucks and possibly no chance to win.

The Euro background seems to be about the winning first and the perks second. That could be a great asset for Toronto in years to come when others experience the success you are having.

The fans of Toronto look at you and T.J. as one point guard. We don’t think of you as number two or the fill in guy. The team is in great hands and there is never fall off no matter who is running the show.

T.J. is a scorer that creates a chaotic frenzy on the floor. You come in and run a more controlled offense while not giving up the speed or efficiency.

I am excited to see how this season turns out and I look forward to every game. I have high hopes like all fans and I feel in my gut that once the season winds down the Raptors will be stronger than ever.
