Thanks to the musical ear of a man simply known as Kyle, every week Cuzoogle will feature six songs/videos that you should check out. This week Kyle is liking the sounds of Maritime, Nouvelle Vague, Otis Redding, Son Volt, The Buddyrevelles and of course his No. 1 pick.

Deadly Drink in a Dirty Glass Edition
6. Otis Redding, Sitting in the dark and listening to Otis is magic. This one is for all you lovers out there, you bastards. Live from Monterey, if you were wondering.
5. The Buddyrevelles, Naming your band after an obscure 80’s movie villain scores points with me, but if you throw in a snowy supermarket challenge video…you take my heart. Did I mention it’s a really cute pop song?
4. Maritime, Another band that wins points with me for their name. These guys list Ned’s Atomic Dustbin as one of their influences and one of the guys in the band looks like Hurley from Lost, how can you go wrong with that?
3. Son Volt, I’m a big fan of Wilco and the Meat Puppets, so digging these guys is no surprise. I watched bits and pieces of the Grammys this year and I saw this train wreck of a country “star” named Brad Paisley. His performance reminded me that there is great country music out there; you just have to turn off the radio.
2. Nouvelle Vague, This band is most well known for their covers, bossa nova style. I had a great road trip two summers ago and these guys were predominating on the soundtrack. It also doesn’t hurt that they are easy on the eyes. Love the crowd singing the chorus at the end.
1.Tiny Masters of Today, I’ve been lucky lately, I have befriended a very hip preschooler (he’s one of my friends kids, don’t worry) and this is his favourite new song. He also likes cookies, not taking naps, snowmen and the band Pavement. We’re going to get along fine, as long as he stays away from my beer. There’s a ton of cameos in this video, good luck spotting them.

How about naming your songs after movies from the ’60s? I’m sure that reference didn’t pass you by. Oh yeah, tell us the names of the songs! Thanks for the Maritime link - I have a couple of their songs but perhaps I need to get a whole album.
Still not crazy about Son Volt - I always think of them as the guy from Uncle Tupelo that isn’t Wilco. Too much country, not enough alt.
So what is your favourite blogggggg?
I have always wondered why Kyle does not name the songs but I am not one to mess with the artist.
As always, loving the list!
That last video is no longer available!
