Any hockey fan out there knows that the NHL trade deadline is Tuesday at 3 pm ET. Tonight, the first big move came from the Colorado Avalanche, signing former star Peter Forsberg.
I was planning to list all the significant trades in one post, but this signing has some sentimental value to me.
My favourite hockey team is the Philadelphia Flyers. They have been for a number of years now. When I was younger, my favourite team was the Colorado Avalanche, and I idolized Peter Forsberg. When he was traded to the Flyers, I followed him, and continued to cheer for him there. After he left Philadelphia, I stayed, because I really liked the team, and where they were going, but since the Avalanche have signed Forsberg, I am going to be cheering for the Avalanche (along with the Flyers) once again.
Forsberg will either finish off this season with the Avalanche, and depending on if he is better, play through next year with them, but that will be it.

The Avalanche have recently activated Joe Sakic, Paul Stastny, and Ryan Smyth from the IR, and with Forsberg making his return, this team seems very close to playoff ready. The Flyers are still and will always be my favourite team, but as the playoffs roll around, I will be cheering every night for the Avalanche on their trip through the Western Conference playoffs.
I believe that Peter Forsberg made the right decision in signing with the Avalanche, it is where he started his career, and had his best years, and it just makes sense for him to have one last go with them.
