Cuzoogle trying to go green
Posted by Cuzzy as Halifax, car stuff, daily newsLast month in Halifax one grocery store decided it was time to say so long to plastic bags and adopt cloth bags 100%. For those who love the environment this is great news. No more plastic bags ruining the planet. Of course this just happens to be the grocery store that Cuzoogle residents go to the most so that meant a change in how we bring home our food.
I am all for stores going green and trying to send out less waste but recently we have caught on to the real reason why the change has happened.
In the short term the Atlantic Superstore on Quinpool is going to make easy money from all of those people who forget to bring their bags with them.
We are all in the habit of just going to the store and not thinking of bringing our own bags so for a period of time there is going to be a lot of forgetting.
We have done this a few times already and that just means we have to keep buying more bags. It is becoming a joke really. We are up to nine bags and if we get any more we will need a bigger house to keep them all in.

There have been plans like “lets keep a few in the car” or “or lets keep a few by the door” and so far I have gone to the store a few times with no bags.
Oh and can I just say it adds a lot of time to the checkout process. Those damn cloth bags are tricky. They don’t go in a handy metal holster so the checkout person can quickly fill them up. Nope you gotta play with them and hold them to keep them open. Then there is the whole “Do I bag my own or wait for the person to do it?”
I know in the long run it is better for the planet and all the minor details will get worked out but in the meantime I hope the Superstore enjoys all the extra loonies it is making on those who can’t remember their bags.

LOL, I hear you. We have actually started keeping those plastic bins in the car instead.
