For those who have not seen it, here is the crime of the night.
It happened to the Heat and they replayed it, would this happen to the Spurs or the Lakers? No way. Just the Raptors because as Alonzo Mourning showed us all, you can kick the Raps in the gut and still be talked about like a hall of famer.
From today’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Hawks can expect an official protest of Wednesday’s victory over the Toronto Raptors, their second of the season including the Miami Heat’s protest of the finish of a Dec. 19 loss to the Hawks. There’s no disputing the call on T.J. Ford’s almost buzzer-beating layup that would have won the game for the Raptors in regulation; the ball didn’t leave his hands until after the game clock had expired. But there was a lengthy discussion in the Raptors’ locker room after the Hawks’ 127-120 overtime victory about the clock starting early on Ford’s layup attempt.
Like the Arsenalist said in the comments of last night’s recap. If this is the difference between playing Orlanda and Detroit, there will be hell to pay.
From the Toronto Star
Colangelo, speaking over the line from Toronto late last night, said it wouldn’t be clear until this morning whether the Raptors would have an avenue for a protest. But Colangelo said he saw what anyone who watched the replay saw: That when Ford caught the ball – at the instant the clock was supposed to start – the time had already run down to 0.4 seconds. So while the referees were correct that Ford didn’t beat the buzzer, the buzzer, it appears, sounded a beat too soon.
“The clock clearly started before he touched it,” said Colangelo. “The fact that this happened in Atlanta … it’s just absolutely inexcusable.”
From ESPN, if you read the comments section, even an Atlanta fan agrees the Raps got jobbed.
