Thanks to the musical ear of a man simply known as Kyle, every week Cuzoogle will feature six songs/videos that you should check out. This week Kyle is liking the sounds of Langhorne Slim, Interpol, Six Organs of Admittance, The Mae-Shi, Pram and of course his No. 1 pick.

Bad Influence Edition

6. Langhorne Slim“Rebel Side of Heaven”, As summer approaches I tend to get in to “catchier” music. This will probably reflect in the Pix. This guy has toured with the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players (who if you haven’t checked out, you should, they made the Pix once) and the Violent Femmes. I think it’s pretty classic to nickname yourself after your birthplace, I would be “Halifax Slouch”.

5. Six Organs of Admittance – “Goodnight”, This is a side project of the lead guy in Comets on Fire. This hardly compares to the MC5 inspired noise rock I’m used to by these guys, but it is beautiful, simple and haunting. Coincidentally, we have an ant problem at work right now…and a silhouette problem.

4. The Mae-Shi – “Megamouth”, After recording their debut album, these guys went out on a self promoted tour where they offered to play weddings, birthday parties or bar mitzvahs at $100 a pop. I have to admit I knew very little of these guys until Barnudio sent me some links. I like a trippy video with some jangly hardcore more often than not.

3. Pram – “Sleepy Sweet”, This is a huge throw back to the late 90’s. I love the scratchy lo-fi quality to this recording. It has a nostalgic feel to it…but I have to admit I think these guys are an acquired taste.

2. Interpol – “Rest My Chemistry”, Having a slight touch of O.C.D., I look for patterns in things that don’t normally have them. I’ve also been reading about “Chaos Theory” lately, so this video left me entranced for quite a while and it wasn’t until about the third play through that I realized I liked the song too.

1. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings – “Tell Me”, Sharon is no stranger to the Pix or my iPod. There is an official video for this track, but I love this live version with the spontaneous back up dancers and stage banter. The Dap Kings horn section makes me want to learn to blow!
