Thanks to the musical ear of a man simply known as Kyle, every week Cuzoogle will feature six songs/videos that you should check out. This week Kyle is liking the sounds of Saint Alvia Cartel, Toyko Police Club, Beastie Boys, Kaki King, Man Man and of course his No. 1 pick.
Black Eyed and Invincible Edition
6. Saint Alvia Cartel – “Blonde Kryptonite”, A bit of a plug. I have to admit…a friend of a friend worked on the video. Gotta support the kids in the industry, but seriously the song is catchy and the video is well done. I love good poster art.
5. Tokyo Police Club – “In a Cave”, It’s almost embarrassing how much I like this band. Straight up pop music for the masses. The production company for this video is called “Balloon Shop”, I wonder why?
4. Beastie Boys – “Check It Out”, This is from the memory vault, I’m pretty sure this is from 2004. I’m a huge fan of good “Steadicam” work and this is amazing, from the subway to the stage. No synching kids, this is live, you can tell by the flubs.
3. Kaki King – “Pull Me Out Alive”, This is terribly catchy, which I am a sucker for. I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about this girl, she’s played with the Foo Fighters, Tegan and Sara and Tortoise. That’s right music geeks, I said Tortoise.
2. Man Man – “Mister Jung Stuffed”, These guys are bizarre, their albums are named after 80’s movies like “Big Trouble in Little China” and they wear war paint on stage. They get described as playing “manic gypsy jazz”, which is pretty cool. And, hey, a cool animated video, go figure…
1. The Black Hollies – “Paisley Pattern Ground”, I was raised on psychedelic rock, thanks Dad (even though I still don’t really like Vanilla Fudge). Even their album covers are throw backs to the 60’s. These guys are big with the Ben Sherman wearing, Vespa scooter riding, latte drinking mod crowd, but I still like them. They have pictures of bacon and blue cheese on their MySpace.
