Finally some Raptors news to follow even if it is pretty boring for now. BC, Sam and the Dino posse have hit Florida to check out what is going on at the NBA pre-draft camp.
Here is what is floating around the papers and blogs.
- “Bryan Colangelo has much more to do than just check out potential Raptors as the NBA’s pre-draft camp begins today in Florida. “For me, it’s a chance to initiate or follow up on some trade discussions as well,” Toronto’s president and general manager said in a telephone interview yesterday. “It’s like a basketball convention.” Colangelo, along with coach Sam Mitchell and a raft of front-office and scouting personnel, are descending on the camp with a variety of things to get done. It is no secret Toronto will be trying to set the parameters for a trade involving one of its point guards. There are free agents to talk about and a handful of high-powered agents are also planning to be in Orlando.” (Toronto Star)
- “The Raptors hold the 17th overall pick in next month’s NBA draft. If you’re a Raptors fan hoping the team can parlay the slot into a piece capable of having an immediate impact, then don’t hold your breath. While the annual crap shoot that results in guaranteed millions for many doesn’t unfold until June 26, the pre-draft manouevrings take on a new dimension beginning today. Virtually every basketball bird dog, top executive, assistant general manager, head coach not drawing up plays in the conference finals and team trainers will gather in Orlando, Fla., to catch a close-up look at this year’s incoming class.” (Toronto Sun)
- The Arsenalist is trying his best to find something to blog about and this camp will give him a lot of good stuff to write about. “Blogs and new age media are a great thing and provide a candid, sometimes humorous perspective, but you often come across pieces written without any knowledge of the player/team/GM in question.” (The Arsenalist)
There will be more to report on soon and hopefully an inside look at what BC and Sam get up to in Orlando when they are not doing work.

Mid-round in the NBA is always a difficult proposition. It will be interesting to see if they are able to pick up an impact player with that late of a pick. I’m a Sonics fan, and hell after losing in the lottery, I’m worried about how much of an impact guy they can get at 4, much less 17.
