The Raptors will resume player workouts on Friday the 13th in preparation for the NBA Draft in a few weeks.

This round of contestants are as follows.

F Darrell Arthur, 6? 9?, 225 lbs, Kansas
G Tyrone Brazelton, 6? 0?, 180, Western Kentucky
F James Gist, 6? 9?, 235, Maryland
G DeMarcus Nelson, 6? 4?, 200, Duke
C David Padgett, 6? “11, 230, Louisville

Here is what Hoops Hype is saying about Arthur.

Darrell Arthur - Smooth big man with a scoring mentality, and very nice potential both facing and with his back to the basket. Possesses a terrific frame and wingspan, with excellent athletic ability. Has great hands, nice touch, solid finishing ability around the rim and a beautiful turnaround jumper. Can also face up and knock down jumpers out to 17 feet. Has solid defensive potential thanks to his physical tools and excellent lateral quickness, but is a poor rebounder. Not particularly active–has a tendency to coast too often, and is not always 100% focused on or off the court. Also a poor passer. Needs to add strength. Not always productive enough. Lots of potential, but will he achieve it?

Comparison: Shareef Abdur-Rahim

Of the other names there I have to say I was always a fan of Padgett. He seemed to get injured a lot but he had a toughness and fire to him that I think the Raptors need. Now where would he fit in? That would be the question mark.

This group seems to be more of a checking under all rocks to maybe find a steal. Arthur is an athlete and the Raps certainly need that so of the five names he will be the one that gets filed under possible.

Hoops Hype currently has the Raps picking Donte Green out of Syracuse.

Here is the skinny.

Big, smooth, athletic combo forward with a very high skill level, particularly facing the basket. A terrific perimeter shooter who can get his shot effectively in a multitude of ways. Excellent coming off screens or pulling up off the dribble. Can put the ball down and operate in the mid-range area, and has shown sparks of potential with his back to the basket as well. Shot-selection can be poor—falls in love with the 3-point shot excessively. Needs to improve his ball-handling skills. A poor defender who still needs to learn the nuances of the game. A project, but with great upside.

Comparison: Rashard Lewis

On paper he sounds like he would fit right in with the Raps. There is a lot of love for the three ball in Toronto so I am sure that is why mock drafts are slotting him in at No 17. I could handle a Rashard Lewis type since I was hoping the Raps were going to sign him a few seasons ago.
