The Raptors are finally going through with the process of breaking up with Jorge Garbajosa.

I knew this day would come and also knew he would never suit up for the Raps again. He put in some excellent time with the team, was a bit of a glue guy and did his job. But when we all heard his primal scream and learned his ankle was busted, the writing was on the wall that he would never be the same. Then he tried to come back too soon and ruined any shot at a full comeback.

According to Spanish media reports the Raptors are negotiating a buyout of the last year of Garbajosa’s contract, worth $4.25-million, which would officially end a relationship that started in March of 2006. I hope it had nothing to do with his trip to the Oscars.

Meanwhile, the good Spanish news is that there is now strong signs that Jose Calderon will return as the Raptors’ starting point guard. Last week he fired his U.S.-based agent George Bass, who had represented Calderon for eight years. He will now be represented by Spanish-based agent Paco Lopez Costell.

Love that name!

The word on the street is a confident Calderon felt he did not need an NBA agent to stir up competing offers from rival clubs. Firing Bass could possibly save Calderon $800,000 on a $40-million contract. That is a sweet chunk of change to spend on the good city of Toronto.

When will his PG situation finally come to an end? I am feeling a T.J. trade next week actually.
