Thanks to the musical ear of a man simply known as Kyle, every week Cuzoogle will feature six songs/videos that you should check out. This week Kyle is liking the sounds of The Old 97’s, Radiohead, Kevin Drew, Dr. Dog, The Gutter Twins and of course his No. 1 pick.

“You are richer for doing things” edition

6. The Old 97’s – “Dance With Me”, This band will forever remind me of the movie “The Break-Up”, which wasn’t a horrible film. I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about “Battlestar Galactica”, but apparently there are tons of references in this video.

5. Radiohead – “Rip”, The quality of this clip isn’t incredible and it seems to include some product placement, but it is a quality Portishead cover. It’s kind of cool that they still just sit around and jam and record it. My apologies to those who feel they have heard this song too much lately…

4. Kevin Drew – “Safety Bricks”, I’ve commented before on how certain songs just feel like summer pop songs. This track definitely fits the bill for that category for me. Do I even need to mention that Kevin plays in Broken Social Scene? Is there anyone out there who didn’t know that already?

3. Dr. Dog – “Alaska”, I saw these guys a couple of months ago and they blew me away. They gets lots of comparisons to The Band and deservedly so. Each band member has a nickname based on their real life jobs; they are Taxi, Tables, Text, Trouble and Thanks. I’m still trying to figure out what they do.

2. The Gutter Twins – “Idle Hands”, This band and track have been on the Pix before, but now this track has an official video, so I had to post it. If you’re wondering when the Jackass thing is going to die down, it’s not. When I was a kid, I smashed things and lit them on fire. No matter how stupid and dangerous it is, young males will still do it.

1. Rogue Wave – “Chicago x 12”, I’ve been a fan of these guys for years now and I forgive them for being on the “O.C.” soundtrack. This is also a good summer pop song and the video is done by half of “Mr. Show”. I don’t think there’s been a video done like this since Yo La Tengo’s “Sugarcube”. Enjoy.
