With it being Canada Day I figured it was worth trying to relate it to the NBA. We all know who the best and most famous Canadian hoopster ever is but who else is there? What other Canucks have laced them up in the NBA? Here is the full list (with Mr. Nash) and a little commentary to go with it. Not quite as good as maple syrup but it will do.

In alphabetical order

Norm Baker - Voted Canada’s top basketball player of the half century 1900-50. There is no YouTube footage naturally.

Hank Biasatti - He played hoops at the University of Windsor, where I went to school and shot a few hoops of my own.

Ron Crevier - 7 footer from Montreal before my time. Guess he was too tall for hockey.

Samuel Dalembert - I know, he looks as Canadian as apple pie but he signed the papers so there you go.

Rick Fox - Hated him at Carolina and hated him with the Lakers. Best known for being married to Vanessa Williams.

Stewart Granger - Another baller from Quebec, he averaged a whopping 3.3 PPG his last season.

Lars Hansen - Winner of best name in this list and the first player ever to make the NBA from British Columbia, take that Nash.

Brian Heaney - All Canadian hoops fans know this name and not for a good reason. He is the really bad studio guy on all TSN broadcasts.

Bob Houbregs - He is a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity

Todd MacCulloch - Not only is her from Winnepeg and had one amazing NBA Finals with the Sixers, he is currently the world’s 207th ranked pinball player.

Jamaal Magloire (current) - Had potential to be one of the best, gained a lot of weight and now chooses not to play for the Canadian National team. Oh what could of been for the Big Cat.

Steve Nash (current) - You know who he is.

Leo Rautins - These days Leo is one of the voices of the Raptors and Canada’s National Team head coach.

Mike Smrek - If you watched ball in the 80’s you know him as one of the many white guys in little shorts who was not very good. Who cares, the guy has a MySpace page.

Gino Sovran - Another kid from Windsor who played for the Toronto Huskies before any of us were born.

Ernie Vandeweghe - Here is how Wikipedia wraps him up. “Vandeweghe’s key role with the Knicks was as a substitute coming off the bench usually in the third or fourth quarter to rally the team to victory.”

Bill Wennington - Remember watching the Bulls win endless titles? Well picture Michael Jordan surrounded by large white guys. One was Will Purdue, one was Luc Longley and the last one was our Mr. Wennington. The facial hair defined him.

Jim Zoel - No clue about this guy but he helps pad the stats.

That is the grand list, not that many considering how many kids play basketball in public school and high school in Canada.

Oh don’t want to forget those drafted.
