Thanks to the musical ear of a man simply known as Kyle, every week Cuzoogle will feature six songs/videos that you should check out. This week Kyle is featuring a special Canada day pack.
That word means nation and Canada is its name” Edition
Canada Day is the best day of the year at Six Pix headquarters; the staff takes part in disc golf on the island, multiple Moosehead and a BBQ. It’s a really fun day off. Seeing how the extended family is all over our great nation and the world, we thought we would offer up a little CanCon treat, enjoy! Happy Canada Day!
6. The New Pornographers – “You’re Daddy Doesn’t Know”, This brilliant cover is from the FUBAR soundtrack and the video was done by the director of said film. Mullets, bad mustaches and drunken tomfoolery performed for money…very Canadian!
5. Elliot Brood – “Oh Alberta”, I think these guys are on the cusp of musical greatness. I’ve seen them live a couple of times and they never disappoint. I think they mention most of the provinces in this song and the territories too. The bar in the video looks a lot like the Dakota, can anyone confirm this?
4. The Tragically Hip – “Bobcaygeon”, “It’s not the band I hate, it’s the fans…” It’s a very fitting quote for Canada’s most famous band. I have songs I prefer by the Hip, but this one feels so Canadian. They don’t mention hockey or Eric’s Trip, but Gord plays a Mountie and they sing about seeing the stars from a small town, so that’s why I picked it.
3. Neil Young and friends – “Four Strong Winds”, This track makes me teary eyed now, thanks Drew Mac (you dick!). I love how Neil pours his heart into this song every time he plays it. This, in my opinion, is one of the greatest Canadian songs of all time.
2. Stompin’ Tom Connors – “Sudbury Saturday Night”, I couldn’t make a list of Canadian music that makes me happy without Stompin’ Tom. He has better songs, but this one reminds me of my small town roots and everything I ran away from.
1. The Rheostatics – “The Ballad of Wendell Clark”, You knew there was going to be a hockey song…I met Mr. Clark last year; he’s a really nice guy. I’ve been a fan of the Rheostatics since the very first time I heard them. If I was to go to a foreign country and try to explain Canadian music, this is what I would play for them. For the record, I’ve played hockey with these guys and Dave (not to single anyone out) can really skate. Number #17 on your score card, but number #1 in your heart!

Oh my Canada! Great pix. Especially love the New Pornographers straight up Toronto cover. Great movie, great song, great nod to Pat Benatar in that one… Rheostatics as your number one pick? What, no Parachute Club, Nylons, or even Gino Vanelli? Where’s your pride, man?
Pretty sure that Stompin’ Tom vid was shot at the Horseshoe Tavern…
good picks. even though you left out the best canadian band ever.
Not sure about the Dakota for the Elliott Brood Vid, but I’m pretty sure the opening scene with the waitress is the Lakeview up on Dundas… mmmm breakfast burrito.
